Perfect Valentine’s Gifts for the Person Who’s Always Freezing
On Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing sweeter or more romantic than offering your love (romantic or platonic) some extra comfort. So, if you’ve got a partner or friend who’s always cold — you know the type, bundled up in three layers despite having their thermostat set to just shy of “tropical rainforest” — we’ve got the gift guide for you.
While some people just have naturally cold hands and feet, others might be dealing with medical issues. “There are a variety of reasons why some people are always cold,” explains Simran Malhotra, MD, a certified health and wellness coach and a diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. “Some of these include having conditions that may lower the body’s metabolic rate, such as hypothyroidism, body compositions with less body fat or muscle mass, and underlying chronic health issues, such as anemia or Raynaud’s disease. In these situations,” she notes, “people may have impaired temperature regulation or may struggle to retain body heat.”
Whatever the reason, there’s no need to let them suffer in silence (or in shivers!). So, this Valentine’s Day, let’s turn up the heat — literally. From wearable blankets to warming accessories, this list is packed with clever and comforting gift ideas that are perfect for a partner or pal who’s always freezing. Here’s to showing your love with a little extra warmth, helping them stay toasty and warm this Valentine’s Day — and all winter long.

Common Questions & Answers
Yes, conditions like hypothyroidism, anemia, and Raynaud’s syndrome can make people more prone to feeling cold.
“Poor circulation can contribute to feeling cold through several mechanisms,” Dr. Malhotra points out, “such as reduced blood flow to extremities leading to poor oxygen and nutrient delivery as well as impairing the body’s ability to thermoregulate, especially in colder climates.”
“Eat mostly a whole food, plant-predominant diet [that] is rich in antioxidants, nitric oxide (particularly found in beets and leafy greens), and omega-3s,” advises Malhotra. “This dietary pattern is particularly heart-healthy, which is a great way to optimize your blood circulation and oxygenation.” She also suggests incorporating regular physical activity, such as walking, biking, or yoga to help boost heart health and blood flow.
