Ulcerative Colitis Overview

Ulcerative Colitis Treatment

The goal of treatment for ulcerative colitis, a type of inflammatory bowel disease, is to heal the colon (remission) and prevent flare-ups. Medications, alone or in combination with other types of treatment, are used to calm intestinal inflammation and help with symptoms. Surgery is another option if medications aren’t effective and if the disease is very severe.
