Sickle Cell Anemia

Sickle cell anemia is a group of diseases that change the shape of red blood cells, blocking blood flow and making it more difficult for cells to transport oxygen throughout the body. These inherited diseases are lifelong and can cause complications, including severe pain episodes called sickle cell crises.

Medications, blood transfusions, and bone marrow transplants can help people with sickle cell anemia have a long, active life.
