Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to infection that leads to widespread tissue damage and organ failure. It requires emergency treatment with antimicrobials, fluids, and other medications. Common symptoms include fever, low blood pressure, confusion, severe pain, and breathlessness. Infants, older adults, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems have an increased risk of sepsis.
