Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can develop after you are bit by an infected tick. Although antibiotics can treat the condition effectively, Lyme disease can be difficult to identify in its early stages, and if untreated it may eventually cause long-lasting issues such as arthritis and nerve damage.
