Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism occurs when your thyroid gland produces more thyroid hormone than your body needs. This speeds up bodily functions, causing symptoms like weight loss, a rapid heartbeat, sweating, a goiter (swollen thyroid gland), and more frequent bowel movements. Treatment involves medication, radioactive iodine, or surgery to reduce thyroid activity.
