The Hunger Games star revealed to Vogue in the October 2022 cover story that she suffered two miscarriages before giving birth to her baby boy, Cy, in February 2022. Her first pregnancy happened in her early twenties, and while she intended to have an abortion, her pregnancy ended a different way. “I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal,” she said.

She got pregnant again a few years ago while shooting Don’t Look Up — this time married to art dealer Cooke Maroney and very much wanting a child — but she miscarried again. She needed a D&C, the surgical procedure that removes tissue from the uterus.

Now with a healthy baby, she told Vogue she's very troubled that the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, and subsequent restrictions on abortion rights, will limit women's reproductive healthcare options. “I remember a million times thinking about it while I was pregnant. Thinking about the things that were happening to my body. And I had a great pregnancy. I had a very fortunate pregnancy. But every single second of my life was different. And it would occur to me sometimes: What if I was forced to do this?”

The Married at First Sight star shared a montage of photos on Instagram in October 2022 to pay loving tribute to her first child Johnathan, who died 17 weeks into her pregnancy. “Everyone around me was getting pregnant and keeping their babies, but mine was gone. I felt like God was punishing me. I mean, all I've ever wanted was to be a mommy. I was SO EXCITED for this sweet baby boy, but he was ripped out of my life as fast as he came.”

She said it’s unclear why her son didn’t make it, but she still feels his energy. “I don't know why our sweet Johnathan wasn't born healthy & breathing. I don't know why we didn't get to bring him home to cuddle him, protect him, & watch him grow. BUT, I do know he is still with us. I can FEEL his presence — and whenever I begin to doubt it, he shows up in bigger ways.”

In her 2023 book of poetry, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, the Transformers actress wrote about losing a pregnancy at 10 weeks with her fiance, singer Colson Baker, aka Machine Gun Kelly. Lines quoted in People magazine include, “I want to hold your hand / hear your laugh,” and “but now / I have to say / goodbye.” She told Good Morning America, “It was very difficult for both of us. And it sent us on a very wild journey together and separately. … trying to navigate, 'What does this mean? And why did this happen?'”

A Machine Gun Kelly song written for some editions of his 2022 Mainstream Sellout album, called “Last November,” alludes to the event. Among the lyrics: “One day and another 10 weeks / I never even got to hear your heart beat.”

Megan also told WWD that she’d suffered an ectopic pregnancy years ago. That’s when a fertilized egg implants somewhere other than the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. She has three children from her marriage to fellow actor Brian Austin Green.

The Basic Instinct beauty revealed in a comment on People magazine’s Instagram account that she has personally experienced nine miscarriages. After reading a post in June 2022 about Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy’s pregnancy loss, she wrote, “We, as females, don't have a forum to discuss the profundity of this loss. Prior to her daughter Coco being born — her only child who she shares with ex-husband and actor David Arquette — the Friends alum told People that she had experienced multiple miscarriages. “I get pregnant pretty easily, but I have a hard time keeping them.” Despite having miscarried “quite a few times,” Courtney said she was able to bounce back fairly quickly. “I don’t say it’s a walk in the park. But what are you going to do? We just try again.”

After experiencing a miscarriage when she was single in 2021, the British singer said she felt completely alone. Months later, she owned up to the fact that she was still processing her loss. “I knew that the reason it happened was because I wasn’t supposed to do it alone. … I’m supposed to find someone that wants this as much as I do,” she said on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast in May 2022.

The “Bang Bang” vocalist recalled the morning she didn’t feel right, so she went to the doctor to check on her pregnancy. “I still had very intense nausea, [but] I just knew something wasn’t the same,” she said. After the doctor performed an imaging test, she said there was “that dreadful silence when you first have a scan and they kind of don’t say anything.”

Jessie welcomed a baby boy in May 2023 with partner Safir Cornish Colman.

Just a month after announcing her pregnancy with then-husband Sam Asghari, the pop princess took to her Instagram account again, this time saying that she miscarried. “It is with our deepest sadness that we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy,” she wrote in May 2022. “This is a devastating time for any parent.”

She also mentioned that they didn’t wait until the pregnancy was further along to make an announcement — a choice made by many couples — but “we were overly excited to share the good news.”

The pair separated in August 2023. Britney is the mother of two sons, Sean and Jayden, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

The Girls Trip star says she’s had eight miscarriages, likely due to a congenital problem with her uterus. She told the Washington Post in a July 2023 interview, “I’ve got a uterus shaped like a heart. … It just won’t keep anything in.” She explained that she’s preferred to keep her fertility struggle private until now. “I don’t want people saying: ‘Are you okay? Are you all right?’ Like a wounded animal, I just rather go in a cave by myself. Lick my wounds.”

The Oscar-winning actress told the UK’s The Times that she suffered an “extreme, painful” miscarriage before the arrival of her and husband Michael Fassbender’s first baby. “We have a child now, but it took us time,” she said. “I tried to get pregnant for a while. So I had tough times during [the COVID] lockdown. … For a while I didn’t think that I could get pregnant.”

While Alicia was at first unsure about sharing her story, she decided the experience was too “universal” to keep to herself. “I kind of stopped and thought, ‘Am I going to talk about this?’” she explained. “But so many women go through similar things.”

The Oscar winner went on to say that her miscarriage gave “another meaning” to her role in The Light Between Oceans in 2016, in which her character lost two pregnancies.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping for the April 2022 cover story, the Today co-host shared that she had a miscarriage and went through two rounds of in vitro fertilization after she and her husband Michael Feldman welcomed their daughter Vale in 2014. The experience left her wondering if she’d ever be able to conceive again.

“I didn't want to get my hopes up,” Savannah continued. “I just tried to tell myself that it would be okay if it didn't happen: Maybe it's not meant for me, and that's okay because I've already been blessed so much in my life. I'm not entitled to have a baby too. Looking back, that mindset was probably a self-defense mechanism.”

Savannah is also the mother of a son, Charles, who was born in 2016.

The country singer revealed in April of 2023 that his wife had suffered a miscarriage at 20 weeks with what would have been their sixth child together. He told People magazine, “I just don't know how moms make it through the rest of their lives with that kind of pain. … As a husband and a father, not being able to do anything about it, not being able to protect my wife's feelings or the baby, sucks.”

In an op-ed article published in The New York Times on November 25, 2020, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she had a miscarriage while holding her son, Archie, the child she and Prince Harry had in May 2019. “After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right. Singer-songwriter Christina Perri shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, in November 2020 that she and her husband, Paul Costabile, lost their daughter in the third trimester of pregnancy. Being open and candid with her fans, she shared a sweet photo of herself and Costabile holding their stillborn child’s hand. “She was born silent after fighting so hard to make it to our world. She is at peace now and will live forever in our hearts.”

The pregnancy had shown earlier signs of trouble. Christina tweeted in the beginning of November that she was hospitalized so that her baby could be closely monitored. The “baby will still have some challenging issues when they arrive, but hopefully I can stay pregnant a bit longer.” The “Jar of Hearts” singer also suffered a miscarriage in January 2020.

Christina says she learned she has a treatable blood clotting disorder, and went on to have a healthy baby girl, Pixie Rose, in October 2022. She and her husband have an older daughter, Carmella, who was born in 2018.

The country music queen spoke in September 2018 to CBS Sunday Morning to share that she’d gone through three miscarriages in the previous two years. “I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby. We got pregnant in early 2017, and it didn’t work out,” she admitted. While she relied on her faith to help her get through it, she started to get mad when she suffered a third miscarriage the following year. “Why on earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like what is this? Either shut the door or let me have a kid.”

Carrie gave birth to her second son, Jacob, in January 2019. He joined big brother Isaiah who was born in 2015.

In an article published in June 2018 in People, the Olympic gymnast said that she waited a week to tell her husband, Andrew East, that she was pregnant because she wanted to share the happy news in person. “When I found out I was pregnant, it was the greatest moment in the world because it was basically God’s miracle of, ‘Yes, you’ve hurt your body for so many years, but this can still happen.’”

Sadly, she miscarried the following day — eight weeks into the pregnancy — and she worried she couldn’t be a good parent. “I had these guilty feelings of, ‘If I can’t even take care of a child for a week in my stomach, I can’t raise a child on my own.’ I felt guilty to Andrew that I had lost his child, and I felt guilty to God that I lost his child.”

Shawn gave birth to daughter Drew in October 2019, son Jett in 2021, and son Barrett in December 2023.

In her 2013 HBO documentary, Life Is But a Dream, the multi-Grammy-winning artist opened up about the miscarriage she had before becoming pregnant with her first child, daughter Blue Ivy. “About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life,” she recalled. But in an appointment not long afterward, she was told the heartbeat was no longer there. “I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I’ve ever written in my life. … And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I’ve ever been through.”

Beyoncé and her husband, the rapper Jay-Z, are also the parents of twins Sir and Rumi, born in 2017.

Singer Lily Allen also has been very open about her experiences with loss. In an interview published in The Telegraph, she talked about her difficulties coming to terms with her January 2008 miscarriage. “I just didn’t deal with it at all,” she said. “I didn’t even start beginning to deal with it until the baby’s due date. Then it just hit me like a house collapsing. The week before the due date, all I wanted to do was talk about my baby, but I also felt I shouldn’t.”

Tragedy befell the singer again in 2010, when she had a miscarriage six months into her second pregnancy. In the British documentary Lily Allen: Rags to Riches, Allen said, “It was a really long battle, and I think that kind of thing changes a person.” The singer revealed in 2015 that her song “Something’s Not Right” was written in memory of her stillborn son.

Allen has two daughters, Ethel and Marnie, with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

In the former first lady’s memoir, Becoming, Michelle Obama revealed that she and Barack had trouble getting pregnant and suffered a miscarriage, and that both Sasha and Malia, the couple’s two daughters, were conceived through IVF treatments.

Promoting her book in November 2018 on ABC, she revealed to Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts that her miscarriage left her feeling deeply inadequate. “I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed. Because I didn’t know how common miscarriages are. Because we don’t talk about it. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”

When discussing that fertility treatments were needed to conceive her two girls, she said, “The biological clock is real, because egg production is limited. And I realized that as I was 34 and 35. I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work and how they don’t work.”

In June 2020, the singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette revealed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that she struggled a lot when she was trying to grow her family. “Not all of it was the ideal situation,” she shared. “I had a bunch of miscarriages. … had a molar pregnancy.” (A molar pregnancy is a tumor growth in the uterus that arises from implantation of a fertilized egg that isn't viable.)

Despite her difficulties, she didn’t let the disappointments keep her down. “I'm a cynical optimist,” she continued, saying she “will get depressed and cry, but at the end of the day, there's still that little light.”

Alanis is the mother of children Ever, Onyx, and Winter.

In her memoir, The Rural Diaries, the actor Hilarie Burton wrote that she and her husband, The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, struggled with miscarriage and it caused strain on their relationship. After having their son, Gus, in 2010, they decided to try for another child. After trying for more than a year, she suffered a miscarriage and “took on so much guilt” she told People magazine. “When you get blindsided by your body, that betrayal of your body is very hard to overcome,” she says. In her book, she wrote that her fertility struggles made her “the worst version of myself” and while for a time Jeffrey was distant and unreachable, they got their relationship back on track.

Gus also has a sister, George Virginia Morgan, who was born in 2018.

A yoga instructor and the wife of the actor Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin wrote an essay for Glamour that talked about the back-to-back miscarriages she had in 2019 and openly shared on Instagram. She had a miscarriage at around 10 weeks, and they tried again and got pregnant a few months later. “In contrast to my spring pregnancy, this baby had a strong heartbeat. We were excitedly making plans — and Alec and I dreamed about what it would be like to have a girl again after so many boys.” But at the 16-week mark, “there was no movement, no heartbeat. … I couldn’t stop sobbing.” After a period of feeling devastated, she wrote, “I knew that I needed to feel better. I needed to heal. I had to — for my babies, my husband, my loved ones, and myself.”

Hilaria and Alec are now the parents of seven children.

In November 2019, Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek revealed the sad news on Dancing With the Stars that his wife, Kimberly, had recently had a miscarriage at 17 weeks. “It’s every expectant parent’s worst nightmare. We lost the baby,” he said. “All you know is that it brings you closer together. It breaks you open. It opens up your heart. It deepens your appreciation.” He went on to dance that night in honor of his wife and what they’d lost.

After a second pregnancy loss, The Van Der Beeks welcomed their sixth child in October 2021.

In June 2020, The Martian star Kate Mara shared on the Informed Pregnancy podcast that she had a miscarriage before giving birth to a daughter with her husband, Fantastic Four actor Jamie Bell. She’d taken a pregnancy test and received a positive result, but the doctor couldn’t find the embryo. Mara learned she had a blighted ovum, a gestational sac in the uterus that forms without the presence of an embryo.

“I didn't know what that was at the time. So she said, ‘Basically, you've miscarried, but it just hasn't left your body yet.’” She said that it took three months for her body to fully miscarry, because the medication she was prescribed for that purpose didn't work.

When she found out later she was pregnant again, she didn’t want to get her hopes up. But the embryo was healthy and the pregnancy successful. She and Jamie also have a son, born in 2022.

The former co-host of The Real says she blamed herself for a miscarriage she experienced shortly before her wedding with rapper Jeezy in March 2021 because she had never wanted children. She told Women’s Health magazine in September of that year, “I wondered if I was being punished. I wondered if I’d jinxed myself or cursed myself.”

Jeannie quickly became pregnant again and gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Monaco, in January 2022. Jeezy filed for divorce in September 2023.
