Endocarditis

Endocarditis is inflammation in the lining of the heart’s chambers and valves, most often due to a bacterial blood infection acquired during procedures like tooth extractions or endoscopies. Rapid treatment with intravenous (IV) antibiotics is necessary to reduce heart damage and severe complications, and surgery may be necessary to repair valves afterward.
