We Tested Over 50 Meal Delivery Services With RDs — These 11 Are the Best if You’re Following a Mediterranean Diet
“The beauty of a Mediterranean diet is that it truly can incorporate all foods, and there aren't any foods you need to avoid entirely,” says Alyssa Pacheco, RD, a registered dietitian in Boston, Massachusetts, and founder of the PCOS Nutritionist. Instead, by focusing on the foods found in the Mediterranean region (such as fiber-rich whole grains and produce, olive oil, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins), you may naturally eat less of the foods not included in the diet, such as ultraprocessed snacks and red meat.
But as healthy as it is, following the diet isn’t always as easy — at least not here in the United States. Life is busy, and not everyone has the time or resources to shop for and cook Mediterranean-style ingredients and meals every day. But that’s where meal delivery services can help: There are several that offer Mediterranean diet delivery food. So to help you find the best ones, we tested over 50 popular meal delivery services operating today with the help of a dozen RDs (myself included) and professional food journalists. Then we assessed each company offering Mediterranean diet options to assess each service’s food quality, taste, and nutritional value.
Here are the 11 we loved most.

Tori Martinet, RD, a registered dietitian in Carlsbad, California, and owner of Tori’s Table, tested Sunbasket for us and says that she loves that Sunbasket has a curated meal plan option specifically for the Mediterranean diet, plus add-ons for breakfast and lunch. “Sunbasket offers a rotating menu of recipes and preportioned ingredients to make dinner easier while featuring plant-filled options that emphasize whole grains, fiber, and health-promoting fats,” says Martinet.
Sunbasket lets you customize meals with high-protein options, allergen exclusions, or quick cooking times to fit your dietary needs. You can also select meal kits or ready-to-heat meals with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and pantry add-ons.
While meals start at $9.99 per serving, there is an upcharge for organic meat. For example, organic skinless chicken breasts cost an additional $3.99 per serving. However the cost reflects Sunbasket’s commitment to premium quality, which may be worth it to some consumers who want organic produce and responsibly sourced proteins.

Best High-Protein
Blue Apron
Pros
- Option to add protein to any meal
- Includes heat-and-eat meals and meal kits
- Generous portion sizes
Cons
- No Mediterranean diet–specific plan
- Lack of allergen-friendly options
- Price: $7.99 to $11.99, depending on the number of meals and servings ordered
- Shipping fee: Free for the first box and $10.99 per box after that
- Meal Type: Meal kit, premade options
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean Menu: No
Blue Apron is an excellent choice for high-protein meal kits thanks to its flexible protein options. While many delivery services on our list could also work for high-protein diets, Blue Apron makes it easy to add extra meat, seafood, or plant-based protein add-ons to any meal.
Blue Apron is one of a few services on our list that doesn’t have a dedicated Mediterranean menu, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find meals that naturally fit the Mediterranean dietary pattern. Our tester Martinet found that Blue Apron includes many meals that rely on fiber-rich carbohydrates like whole grains, beans, and legumes, as well as nuts and seeds — all hallmarks of a Mediterranean diet. She also recommends exploring the Wellness or Nutritionist's Pick meal options, which may not strictly adhere to a Mediterranean framework but can help manage nutrients like sodium and saturated fats.
Blue Apron may not be the best choice if you have food allergies due to its limited allergen-friendly options and potential for cross-contamination. However, it's a good choice for those aiming to follow a high-protein diet while leaning into the principles of the Mediterranean pattern.

Best for Green Mediterranean Diet
Green Chef
Pros
- Supports the green Mediterranean diet with plant-based options and organic produce
- Creative, flavorful recipes with generous portions
- Convenient premeasured ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes
Cons
- Some meals require more prep or cooking time
- Price: $11.99 per serving
- Shipping fee: $10.99 per box
- Meal type: Meal kit
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: Yes
“Green Chef is an easy selection for folks who want to embrace a Mediterranean pattern but want to limit animal protein and products,” said Martinet, who also tested this service for us. You can even choose the Mediterranean diet preference when you sign up. Martinet adds that the menu is filled with dishes that prioritize plants, making it easy to make accommodations to match the green Mediterranean pattern (although you'll have to add your own shake).
Green Chef also offers a range of add-ons to its orders, including ready-to-cook proteins, roasted vegetables, salads, and prepackaged convenience items like granola or oatmeal. While some recipes are more detailed or time-intensive, requiring a bit more effort in the kitchen, the result makes them worthwhile.

Best Frozen Plant-Based
Daily Harvest
Pros
- Wide variety of plant-based options to align with the Mediterranean diet
- Minimal prep time
- Easy to customize orders
Cons
- Portions may be small for those with higher calorie needs
- No Mediterranean-specific meal plan
- Price: $6.79 to $9.79 per item with $50 minimum
- Shipping fee: $9.99 per box
- Meal Type: Frozen premade
- Subscription required: No
- Set Mediterranean menu: No
For those seeking an easier way to incorporate more plant-based meals into a Mediterranean-inspired diet, Daily Harvest stands out. While the Mediterranean diet is not strictly plant-based, these frozen meals offer a variety of fully prepared, frozen meals and snacks, minimizing prep and cleanup time.
All meals are 100 percent plant-based and gluten-free, including smoothies, grain bowls, pasta, flatbread, soup, and more. “The service has fully prepared frozen options for easy access and features abundant Mediterranean diet-friendly ingredients like whole grains, beans and legumes, and plenty of fruits and vegetables,” says Martinet, who tested this service for us.
One of Daily Harvest’s standout features is convenience. All meals and smoothies arrive frozen with clear, concise instructions for heating or blending. Smoothies, for example, require nothing more than adding liquid, blending, and pouring back into the provided cup, which even comes with a straw-friendly lid. Similarly, most meals, such as grain bowls and soups, require no more than five minutes to heat and serve.
The portion sizes may be too small for those with higher daily calorie needs, and the service does not offer a Mediterranean-specific label for its meals. Despite this, most options, like the White Bean Spinach and Pesto or Lentil and Tomato Bolognese, naturally fall into the Mediterranean diet category. Having these meals readily available in your freezer offers an easy and convenient way to stick to Mediterranean principles, even on the busiest days.

Best Fresh Plant-Based
Methodology
Pros
- Fresh prepared meals high in fiber and plant-protein
- Large variety of meals
- Sustainable packaging
Cons
- Priciest on our list
- Missing some nutrient information
- Price: $20 to $30 per serving
- Shipping fee: $9.95
- Meal Type: Fresh premade
- Subscription required: No
- Set Mediterranean Menu: No
Methodology is our top fresh plant-based Mediterranean meal delivery service, combining nutrient-rich meals with convenience. “The biggest defining quality of Methodology is the quantity and variety of produce that makes nutrients like fiber and antioxidants essentially unavoidable,” says Martinet, who tested the service for us. “I love the prioritization of whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds as well as protein, all of which give it distinctly Mediterranean flair.”
You can choose meals from curated programs or “Build Your On Box” with weekly rotating meal selections (around 20 entrees and 5 to 10 breakfasts per week). If you still want to include some animal protein occasionally, you can also choose from meals with seafood and meat.
All food is gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free, plus it’s high in fiber and protein. While meals aren’t specifically labeled Mediterranean, many ingredients fall under the Mediterranean diet pattern, and we found that Methodology’s nutrition program follows a Mediterranean pattern by default.
Convenience is a major plus of Methodology. Meals arrive fully prepared in aesthetically pleasing glass jars, ready to eat with a quick warm-up. The eco-friendly packaging is a nice touch, though our testers noted they ended up with more glass jars than they could reuse or recycle efficiently (although in some regions of California, Methodology will pick up the glasses and the box).
On the downside, Methodology has a high price point of $20 to $30 per serving, which might deter budget-conscious buyers. Additionally, those monitoring sodium content should take caution as Methodology doesn’t share the sodium content of its meals. Despite these drawbacks, Methodology’s convenient, plant-forward meals make it a top contender.

Best Budget-Friendly
Dinnerly
Pros
- Most budget-friendly option on our list
- Easy-to-make recipes catering to families and picky eaters
- Straightforward, no-fuss cooking for stress-free meals
Cons
- No Mediterranean-specific meal plan
- Limited add-ons
- Price: $5.50 to $11.50 per serving
- Shipping fee: $11.99 per box
- Meal type: Meal kit to cook yourself, fresh prepared
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: No
Dinnerly is the most budget-conscious option on our list, starting at just $5.50 per serving for its least expensive meal plan. “My favorite budget-friendly pick is definitely Dinnerly, which may not be as strictly Mediterranean in its offerings but has a lot to choose from and comes in [at] just over $5 per serving for its least expensive meal plan,” shares Martinet, who tested this service.
These recipes are simple to prepare, often requiring minimal steps like one-pot cooking, which is perfect for busy households. Nutritional information, including calories, fat, protein, and allergens, is clearly outlined for each meal with kid-friendly and family-friendly options.
While Dinnerly doesn’t have a Mediterranean-specific meal plan, you can filter recipes labeled “Mediterranean” to find options that fit the pattern. The add-on market includes ready-to-heat meals, desserts, and breakfast options like granola, though these are more limited than other services. Even so, its budget-friendly price, diverse recipe selection, and straightforward cooking process make Dinnerly a practical choice for those seeking fresh, home-cooked meals without breaking the bank.

Best for Families
Marley Spoon
Pros
- Generous portions perfect for families
- Easy-to-follow recipes with kid-friendly ingredients
- Can filter for dietary preferences
Cons
- No Mediterranean-specific meal plan
- Price: $8.69 to $12.99 per serving
- Shipping fee: $11.99 per box
- Meal type: Meal kit
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: No
Marley Spoon is an excellent meal kit option for families, thanks to its generous portion sizes and family-oriented features that simplify getting weeknight dinners on the table. “Marley Spoon has recipes that cater a bit more towards families and traditional ‘family favorites,” says Pacheco, who helped us evaluate Marley Spoon’s meals. “One of their dietary preferences is ‘picky eater approved’ to appeal to even the pickiest eaters in your family.”
Pacheco likes that Marley Spoon offers the flexibility to customize meals for various dietary needs or preferences, including nut-free, low-calorie, vegetarian, and dairy-free options. While it doesn’t feature a dedicated Mediterranean diet plan, many recipes align with Mediterranean eating principles, offering balanced meals with lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy grains.
Families following a Mediterranean diet may need to select their meals carefully, but Marley Spoon’s array of options makes it easier to keep everyone happy.

Best for Variety ─ Premade
CookUnity
Pros
- Ready-to-eat meals for quick dining
- Chef-crafted dishes
- Easy to filter based on food preferences or allergies
Cons
- Certain dishes could include more vegetables for added balance
- Price: $7.76 to $9.61 per meal
- Shipping fee: $9.99
- Meal type: Fresh premade
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: Yes
Among the meal delivery services we reviewed, CookUnity shines for convenience and variety. “CookUnity is a meal delivery service that delivers chef-crafted ready-to-eat meals to your doorstep,” says Pacheco, who helped us evaluate this service. “You can set your dietary preferences to ‘Mediterranean Diet,’ which allows you more options that align with the Mediterranean diet.”
The convenience of CookUnity is a big draw for busy folks, providing single-portion meals that arrive fresh and chilled. With no prep required, you simply reheat and enjoy, saving valuable time and energy. However, Pacheco notes that some meals could stand to include more vegetables to enhance balance and fiber content, which may be a consideration for strict Mediterranean followers. Additionally, the meal options are somewhat limited if you follow a low-sodium or low-fat diet. Premade meals, in general, may not be ideal for strictly low-sodium diets, as they often contain more sodium.
That said, CookUnity is a fantastic choice for those who prioritize convenience, crave restaurant-quality flavors at home, and want a variety of Mediterranean-inspired options to fit a busy lifestyle.

Best Variety ─ Meal Kit
Hello Fresh
Pros
- Large menu selection variety
- Simple recipes for quick prep
- Family-friendly options
Cons
- No Mediterranean-specific menu
- Some meals are high in calories
- Price: $9.99 to $11.49 per serving
- Shipping fee: $9.99
- Meal type: Meal kit
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: No
With more than 100 weekly menu items, including options for vegetarian and pescatarian diets, HelloFresh offers impressive meal diversity. Starting at $9.99 per serving for most plans, it balances affordability and variety. While it doesn’t provide a dedicated Mediterranean meal plan, the rotating menu includes many recipes that feature Mediterranean staples like fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.
Meal kits arrive with preportioned ingredients, detailed recipe cards, eco-friendly packaging, and ethically sourced ingredients. For busy evenings, the “Quick and Easy” category offers meals you can prepare in under 20 minutes. You can even add kid-friendly meals to your delivery, a major plus for parents of picky eaters. In testing the service, we found the meals to be very easy to cook — even without the kit — and always very filling. We also found that even our youngest testers, such as our editorial director’s 5-year-old son, ate several helpings of some of the Mediterranean-inspired dishes, such as the Chickpea-Powered Mediterranean Couscous dish we tested.
That said, it is worth noting that many meals exceed 600 calories, so portion awareness is critical if you’re monitoring your calorie intake. Despite these limitations, HelloFresh stands out due to its extensive options for Mediterranean-friendly meals.

Best Mediterranean Diet Delivery for Singles
Territory
Pros
- Single-serving ready-to-heat meals
- One-time orders or subscriptions available
- Easy to filter diet preferences
Cons
- Meal repetition may become redundant
- Not available in all states
- Price: Meals vary from $13 to $25
- Shipping fee: $9.99
- Meal type: Fresh (previously frozen) premade
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: Yes
Territory Foods tops our list for busy singles because it offers preprepared, ready-to-reheat meals emphasizing nutrient-dense ingredients. The menu includes a Mediterranean diet plan, so you can find meals rich in fresh vegetables, legumes, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. We also like that local chefs and dietitians craft the meals to promote nutrient-packed options that taste good.
“One of my favorite qualities about Territory is the menu search filters, which allow you to search meals by ingredients or nutrition information, making it easy to find what you need and avoid what you don't want,” shares Martinet, who helped us test this service. You can have fresh meals delivered twice a week for prices ranging between $13 and $25 per serving, likely more than you’d pay at the grocery store for individual ingredients, but the convenience makes it worth considering for anyone wanting to spend less time in the kitchen.
Meal options repeat after a few weeks, which might feel monotonous for some (though you can test it for a week or two before committing to a subscription). Delivery is also limited to 27 states, which narrows its accessibility to everyone. However, for those within the delivery area, Territory Foods is a top choice for busy singles ready to eat well with minimal effort.

Best Gluten-Free
Modify Health
Pros
- Meals made in a certified gluten-free kitchen
- Ready-to-heat meals for added convenience
- Offers a Mediterranean program with dietitian support
Cons
- Single-serving sizes are not ideal for families
- Price: $13.45 per meal
- Shipping fee: Free
- Meal type: Fresh premade
- Subscription required: Yes
- Set Mediterranean menu: Yes
ModifyHealth stands out for its Mediterranean meal plan for those with specific dietary needs. While several meal delivery services on our list offer gluten-free options, ModifyHealth operates in a gluten-free kitchen, eliminating concerns about cross-contamination for those with strict gluten sensitivities.
“ModifyHealth does a fabulous job of uniting gluten-free options with a Mediterranean style of eating and is really designed for folks with GI issues, which is an added bonus,” shares Martinet, who tested this service. Every meal is premade, gluten-free, low sodium, and free from refined sugars or artificial preservatives.
One of its most unique features is the “Mediterranean FIT Quickstart Program,” which is more than just a meal plan. This six-week program includes virtual dietitian consultations, helpful tools and resources, and a 50 percent discount on Mediterranean diet meals, providing comprehensive support.
Still, there are some minor drawbacks to be aware of. The single-serving portions may not work for larger households or families, and the $13.45 per serving may be higher than average, potentially deterring those on a tight budget. However, the quality and added program benefits make the cost worthwhile, especially for those on a strict gluten-free diet.

Other Noteworthy Mediterranean Meal Delivery Services We Tried
Everyday Health tested more than 50 meal delivery services to find the best options for those following a Mediterranean diet. While our top pics took center stage, the following services were also noteworthy and offer Mediterranean diet dishes:
- Splendid Spoon: Splendid Spoon specializes in plant-based, ready-to-eat meals with prices starting at $9.99 per serving. Its focus on nutrient-dense smoothies, soups, and grain bowls makes it a convenient choice for those seeking quick, minimally processed meals. We appreciate the emphasis on whole foods and the convenient menu offerings. However, some of Splendid Spoon’s meals were high in sodium. For more about Splendid Spoon, check out our full review or visit the website.
- Factor: Factor delivers chef-prepared, dietitian-designed meals starting at $11 per serving. The service impressed us with its fresh, ready-to-eat meals that are high in protein and low in refined carbohydrates, aligning with many aspects of healthy eating. However, while Factor has meal plans that cater to keto and calorie-smart diets, its Mediterranean-inspired options were limited compared with other services we tested. For more about Factor, check out our full review or visit the website.
- BistroMD: BistroMD offers medically tailored meal plans designed to support various health goals. Prices begin at $10.99 per serving. We like its science-driven approach, focusing on portion-controlled, nutritionally balanced meals. However, we found the menu had less variety than some other prepared meal options. For more about BistroMD, check out our full review or visit the website.
- Home Chef: Home Chef provides customizable meal kits starting at $9.99 per serving on average, with the flexibility to adjust servings or swap ingredients. The service stands out to us for its family-friendly recipes and Mediterranean-labeled meal kits. However, many of the meals we evaluated were high in excess sodium and fat. For more about Home Chef, check out our full review or visit the website.
How We Tested the Best Mediterranean Meal Delivery Services
Everyday Health has tested and evaluated more than 50 meal delivery companies to find the best of the best with the help of dozen RDs and professional health and food journalists. Each service undergoes a hands-on testing process where our testers subscribe, prepare, and eat the meals just as any customer would. We look closely at cost, customer service quality, website and app navigation, and delivery. Our RDs also always analyze nutrition, ingredient lists, and overall quality of the food for each service.
I’m a registered dietitian who has personally tested and reviewed dozens of meal delivery companies during our testing process. While I enjoy cooking, I’m also a busy parent, so I appreciate how meal delivery can simplify eating well on a tight schedule. I also understand we all have different dietary needs and individual preferences, so I like finding options for everyone.
For this roundup, I not only reviewed all our testing results, but also considered insights from three experienced registered dietitians including Pacheco, Martinet, and Amanda Liptak, RDN, a registered dietitian in Cleveland, Ohio, and founder of Nutrient Rich Life.
What to Look for When Signing Up for Mediterranean Meal Delivery Services
With so many options available, focusing on what matters most for your health, lifestyle, and preferences is essential. Here are some factors to keep in mind when selecting a meal delivery service:
- Price Look at the cost per serving (and note how many servings per meal) and any additional fees, like shipping, to ensure it fits your budget.
- Balanced Nutrition Choose a service that emphasizes the core principles of the Mediterranean diet, with plenty of vegetables, heart-healthy fats, and fiber-rich whole grains. If they don’t have a Mediterranean-specific plan, you’ll want to ensure you understand the pattern's principles before you order.
- Food Preferences Check if the service accommodates your dietary needs or restrictions. Whether gluten-free, plant-based, or pescatarian, a customizable menu can help you stick to your goals.
- Time You Want to Spend in the Kitchen Decide whether you prefer preprepared meals or meal kits that allow for more cooking and creativity.
- Menu Variety Look for a rotating menu with diverse options. Having plenty of choices ensures you won’t get tired of the same meals week after week.
What Are the Health Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet?
“The Mediterranean diet is one of the most well-researched and health-promoting diets to date,” says Liptak. Here are some of the health benefits associated with the Mediterranean Diet:
- Heart Health “The Mediterranean diet is rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats from olive oil and omega-3s from fish, which help lower LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease,” says Liptak.
- Anti-Inflammatory Properties Liptak explains that the fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains that are part of a Mediterranean eating pattern provide antioxidants and fiber that support the reduction of inflammation. Inflammation is closely tied to chronic disease risk, one reason the Mediterranean pattern may be so beneficial.
- Blood Sugar Balance “The emphasis on whole grains, legumes, and healthy fats supports more stable blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes,” explains Liptak. Research suggests that following a Mediterranean diet pattern is linked to lower fasting blood sugar and improved insulin resistance.
- Weight Management Liptak shares that the high-fiber, nutrient-density of the Mediterranean diet can help you feel fuller longer, making weight loss more sustainable.
- Brain Health The Mediterranean diet emphasizes powerful brain-supportive foods, supporting cognitive health. “Foods like fish, nuts, and olive oil are linked to better cognitive function and may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease,” says Liptak.
What Foods Are on the Mediterranean Diet?
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Whole grains
- Beans
- Nuts
- Seeds
- Olive oil
- Fish
- Dairy
- Eggs
“A key component of the Mediterranean diet that's often overlooked is the importance of community and relationships,” Martinet notes. “Consider making the meal a social experience and invite a friend.”
