About

Philippa Garson is a freelance journalist and writer based in New York City. Originally from South Africa, Garson has decades of experience as a political, education, and health reporter. She completed a fellowship on HIV/AIDS in South Africa at the University of Witwatersrand's School of Journalism.

Philippa has written about global health and development for outlets such as the humanitarian news agency IRIN and Forbes Woman Africa. She has written on a range of subjects for Mail & Guardian, Cosmopolitan, Foreign Policy, BBC News, and many other outlets. Garson is married with three daughters, the youngest of whom has Crohn’s disease. Some of her interests include IBD, women’s health, HIV, and psychedelics and mental health. In March 2020 she published Undeniable: Memoir of a Covert War, about her experiences as a journalist in apartheid South Africa.
