About
Melissa Mayer has been a science writer and fact-checker for more than 10 years; she was previously a science teacher. She is a regular contributor to the Entomological Society of America’s blog Entomology Today and has also covered science for the Society for Neuroscience and Mental Floss, among others. Melissa has also written a few books, including a pair of middle school readers about the neurobiology of emotion: Why We Worry: The Science of Anxiety and Why We Rage: The Science of Anger.
Melissa’s favorite beats include entomology, microbiology, cell biology, and neuroscience. She studied history and biology at Trinity University and is currently a graduate student in the department of entomology and nematology at the University of Florida.
When she’s not writing, Melissa spends her time working on her tiny urban homestead, where she lives with her wife and kids, and collecting specimens for her microscope. She loves bonfires, hot springs, and all things queer culture.
