Kathleen Doheny is a Los Angeles–based independent journalist specializing in health, behavior, and fitness topics. She covers both breaking news and features. Currently, she contributes to a variety of health-related websites. Previously, she wrote personal health, travel health, and automotive health and safety columns for the Los Angeles Times. Other credits include contributing to and editing health content for national magazines.
She graduated with a bachelor's in journalism education, then worked at a rural Indiana weekly, at a semi-weekly in downstate Illinois, and for a continuing medical education publisher. She taught magazine feature writing at UCLA Extension for seven years.
Her writing has received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for contributing to a series of articles on autism research and the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons for a piece on cleft palate advances.
Convinced by research about the value of exercise for health, longevity, and stress reduction, she jogs and hikes regularly.
