About
Cheryl is an occupational therapist who has lived for almost two decades with the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis (RA). She loves writing, teaching, and creating videos about the patient experience, life hacks for daily living challenges with arthritis, the importance of mental healthcare in the lives of people with chronic illnesses, and more. Cheryl’s writing has been published in numerous online and print publications, including CreakyJoints, Mamas Facing Forward, The Mighty, and Autoimmune Mom.
In mid-2019, Cheryl created Arthritis Life, a multimedia public health education project that blends personal storytelling with expert advice to help people with arthritis live their lives to the fullest. On Arthritis Life, she provides life hacks, patient stories, provider interviews, and product reviews in a fun, talk show–style format.
Cheryl currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at an occupational therapy assistant program in the greater Seattle area. She also is a volunteer patient educator at local and national Arthritis Foundation events, and serves as a workshop leader for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. She has advocated for other patients at her state and national capitals.
Cheryl has also conducted research on the role of disease-specific Facebook groups for social participation for persons with RA, and has presented this research at occupational therapy conferences and at the American College of Rheumatology’s conference.
On a personal note, Cheryl enjoys being a mom to a kindergarten-age child, and in her free time enjoys traveling with her family. She also recently acquired a puppy whom she is hoping to train as a therapy dog.
